My Professional Values
Personal Consideration
My clients appreciate my ongoing check-ins about their progress and desires. You are the only person who knows what feels right; it’s important to ask for feedback and adjust accordingly if your needs aren’t being met. Providing this kind of attention in our relationship can help you practice it in your personal life, too.
Validity
The mysteries of the mind-body connection are still being explored in depth and fascinating new knowledge is revealed every day. Scientific research and effective treatment are important to me, so I make every effort to stay up to date on latest treatments available to avoid giving you misinformation.
Objectivity
I always try to pay attention to my own reactions to your disclosures and keep my personal life separate so that you feel you have space for bringing ANYTHING into the therapy session knowing that you will be accepted, even if we’re discussing things that tend to be considered taboo or frowned upon elsewhere.
Integrity
If I don’t know something, I’m not afraid to say so. In this case, I seek consultation from well-versed professionals or will help you find an expert in that field if the problem is too far out of my realm of experience.
Cultural Competence
People tell me they feel I make it easy for them to open up because I embrace differences and honor them rather than avoiding or ignoring the topic. I may not know your exact experience, but I will listen deeply and avoid assumptions. I try to be an outlet for you to express your individual difficulties, however you might need to deliver that information.
Honesty
I put significant effort into being honest with you in the kindest way possible, especially if I hear something that stands out. I’ll give direct and practical feedback when you ask for it, but I usually like to ask for you to search within for answers first. Some feedback is hard to hear and I always invite you to share that with me. In the long run people are usually grateful that someone was willing to provide direct input in a way that loved ones might not.
Goal-Oriented Treatment
We will simultaneously address your problems and channel your energy into productive, healthy activities that align with your personal goals. Defining those goals can be difficult at first, but clarifying them is tremendously helpful.
Respecting You Completely
Our "shadows" can provide us with valuable information and momentum toward growth, so I integrate the parts of you that you might dislike or avoid. We all have these parts; sometimes half the battle is acknowledging them.
